This video was taken when we went to Betawi village, Setu Babakan, South Jakarta, Indonesia. A week before (April 11, 2010), we went there also to watch another Betawi traditional performance called “Gambang Kromong”. In the afternoon, after we watched Gambang Kromong, we met three girls who were practicing a dance. They are: Heni, Peni and Ulfah. When we asked them, they said that they’re going to dance “Lenggang Nyai” on April 18.
This video is available in Bahasa Indonesia.
Peni:
This is my first performance, four of us here are still new to this dance. We learn this dance only in two weeks. Actually, this dance is not simple. We only learn about some basic dance moves, but we’ll try our best.
Ulfah:
I’m not too nervous. All prepared, and we hope we can do our best.
Heni:
I think we should have more time for practice. We’re thankful because we can do the dance our best. Sometime, if I make mistake, that was because I was too nervous.
Deli:
Just be confident. If we make mistakes during our performance, we need to keep our confidence.
Mala:
I think we’ve tried our best. There are few things we can improve for our performance: our smile and rhythm.
Olga:
They need to be confident and give the best performance. So far, we’re satisfied with what we performed. Not bad at all, for their first-time experience on the stage. They need to keep practicing.
Lenggos… yuk!
